Timothy and the Things

In 2016 László Fülöp worked with six dancers to investigate the issues of anticipation, delay and evasion and intensive emotional states around this.

The starting point of the performance was the thought experiment of the Shcrödinger’s Cat by the Nobel-prize winner physicist Erwin Schrödinger. The scientist used this experiment to show tht particles can be at various places and in various states at the same time. The experiment points at the absurdity of cat being dead or alive being dependant on the fact if this state is being watched or not.
‘How long can I avoid opening the box? The longer I wait the bigger the damage can get, or it gets more and more probable that I will not be able to work with the fact that I find in the box. Can I spend my whole life for instance in a flat full of boxes with my own personal things without touching them? What if I won’t like what I find in them what if they are dangerous, what if they can hurt me, what if whatever?

And what do I need to make it theatre? – I need viewers, boxes, an extrovert cat acting and defining its position and state according to the viewers. Eventually I started examining everything around me: our relationships, the language, the various systems, everything. It was obvious it would end badly. Notoriously. The complete formal and emotional scale of anticipation in a spaghetti western. From integration to utter isolation. The significance of struggling, surrendering, overcoming, being stuck, contemplating and mistakes and the endless transformation of will between construction and destruction. It is all but a nihilistic state.’ (László Fülöp)

‘They search for simple, banal images (such as standing around, raging, displacement activities). And these images are popping like balloons of gags, fly in the air, up and down, and up and down. They are dragged down by no lead-weight onto the stage, they hit no holes into it. Like real clowns the dancers inhabit the stage, they are jugglers, their steps and moves are airy.
